A few years ago, the idea of taking your downtown Houston senior pictures wasn’t the trend. We only went to locations based on greenery and plants. Outdoor locations with elements like tall grasses or blossoming flower gardens. And while those are still good, I’m so glad seniors are asking for more variety now and a session throughout downtown Houston is a great way to achieve that.
Where should you start planning your senior session downtown?
Start with these downtown Houston session planning tips:
- Consider the photoshoot start time. You should be sure to get there early enough to capture several locations. It takes a little more time since this a walking heavy location and you have to head back to your car each time you want to change outfits. You can easily start a little earlier downtown because the tall buildings provide pretty open shade that is great for an earlier in the day session. This will give you time to walk around and get a variety of buildings in your shoot. I love the light and bright colors at this time of day!
- Consider the photoshoot end time. Do you want to finish your portraits with a glowing sunset in the background? Do you want to have some super cool night time portraits with a night time vibe? You’ll need to plan accordingly.
- Think about doing a rooftop session. Ther are so many parking garages in downtown. You will have to pay to park at the top but the results are worth it and give a whole nother view that unexpected and the ultimate “city” vibe.
- Do you want a skyline photo? Many seniors think of the Houston skyline when they want a “downtown Houston” photoshoot. The reality is that the skyline is visible from the outside of downtown looking back in. I have several places that are great for senior skyline photos. So if you want this iconic senior portrait, be sure to mention it so we can allow time during your session.
Downtown Houston Senior Picture Fashion Tips
- Bring comfortable shoes because I don’t want you to suffer the consequences. This can be one of the more walking intensive locations for your senior portraits. Please bring some comfortable shoes. We will have plenty of time to change shoes at each location for your portraits.
- Make it easy to change. Downtown Houston doesn’t have many places to change. If you’re lucky to be near a coffee shop or cafe you can buy a drink and change in their bathroom. But the main place to change is in your car.
- Make sure your outfits fit your location. Can you imagine a cool location that has all the city vibes- what would you wear? Something dressy like Veronica Lodge or maybe something trendy like Carrie Bradshaw. If you want to wear something super boho or country you should probably select another spot that is a better fit for your style.
